Kenny Benge preached a sermon entitled “Son of David, Son of God” based on Matthew 1:18-25 on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 18, 2010. Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus tells us that God’s actions in birth of Jesus Christ and His (future) ministry are consistent with his actions in the Patriarchs and Kings of the Old Testament and that he works in and through the unknown and the unexpected.  He works through flawed and sinful individuals, as well as flawed and imperfect organization and leaders.

Kenny Benge preached a sermon entitled “Living in the In-Between Time” based on Matthew 11:2-11 on the Third Sunday of Advent, December 11, 2010. Our experience of a real but limited deliverance today orients us to a confident expectation of a full redemption in the future.

Christians are people who have been delivered just enough to know that there is more where that came from, and whose experience of that little deliverance that has already happened inside themselves and whose faith in the deliverance still to happen is what sees them through the night.  Frederick Buechner

Kenny Benge preached a sermon entitled “A Spirituality for Ordinary Life” based in Ephesians 5:21-6:9 on November 13, 2010, on the importance of a spirituality for everyday life.

…we must accept the circumstances we constantly find ourselves in as the place of God’s kingdom and blessing.  God has yet to bless anyone except where they actually are, and if we faithlessly discard situation after situation, moment by moment, as not being “right,” we will simply have no place to receive his kingdom into our life.  For those situations and moments are our lives.
